What is Laser Fish?
The pronunciation of the popular ECM software company Laserfiche can sometimes be a little confusing to those who aren’t industry insiders. There are two common pronunciations of the products:
Laser fiche
Laser Fish
Laser Fish is a common pronunciation of the company name, but the true spelling of the word most likely originates from the term mi·cro·fiche. Before document scanning and computers, libraries and other institutions would store newspapers and periodicals on tiny photographs that could be searched and viewed with a projector-like device. Many of these systems would use paper cards for the index, and you would physically pull out the film and insert it into a projector. You could read the New York Times from 50 years ago from tiny black and white photos.
